I should also note that the computer can unleash their own network of spies on you. The game will warn you there is a spy in a territory (if you have a Base of Operations on that island). They will be clickable and when you click on them you can catch them. Unlike all other things in the game these will not eradiate blue you just have to catch them and what they look like. I tried to find a vid on YouTube of what one might look like but instead I got this:

Anyway they look like sinister nobleman. They wear a cape have black hair and when you zoom in you can see they have retardedly huge noses. Don’t let a single one get through or you will have to deal with a revolt, a fire, or a disease.

If you’re good you’ve already won the war before the war even begins. You’ve successfully defended against the enemy but now it’s time to attack. Remember when you are attacking that your trading partners will lose respect for you the longer you keep a war on once you are invading so you will have to try and keep their opinions of you high. You can do this by going into the diplomacy menu and hitting the button that looks like a happy speech balloon. This gives you your chance of being successful, if it’s not 75% or higher don’t waste your time, it’ll do more harm than good.

So on to the war! In a sea campaign when it is ship vs. ship you are best to stack all of your ships up and attack. This game does not have any rock, scissors, and paper mechanics to make it so certain ships attack certain ships better. Get all of your ships into one giant group by hitting Ctrl+1 and then send them out to destroy your enemies war ships. Make sure they are always targeting the same ship and use that fast forward and slow button (F9) to help in micro managing this battle. As far as building ships bigger is always better. Oriental warships are pretty easily accessible and are a good choice early on but you will want to eventually get big bad Large Warships out there.

There are a few things that are going to help you in this sea battle if you are on the losing end of it. First off you can transform your trading ships into little bombs of destruction if you have Hassan ben Sahid (the Muslim pirate) at peace. He has these flaming barrels that you can put in a trade ships equip slot. What this will do is reign destruction on enemy ships in an area of effect. Basically these are best used if your enemy is also grouping their ship together. You send your little trade ship in and slow down the game, once you are on top of them you blow it up. This won’t kill the ships but it will leave them crippled. This means they are moving slower and are on the run, send your fleet in to finish them off.

As I said in defense use Equip items with self-repair built into them. Once you get repair cranes though you want speed and cannons. Try and get a crew mate from the Grand Vizier with some combination of hit points, speed, and damage in them as well as one cannon from Giacomo Garibaldi (the Italian bureaucrat). You will probably not get many good war items from Lord Richard Northburgh (the representative of the Emperor of Rome) because his items focus mainly on settlement development. Early on you will want to get basic self-repairing items but by the end of the game items are going to be less important to Attainments.

Attainments are like specializations in the game. Each transforms honor into some new ability (new ship options) or some enhancement to your current fleet/civilization. Early on you will want most of the damage and hull health point related ones. Hassan ben Sahid (the Muslim pirate) has probably the best ones for you as a tier 3 talent increases the firing power of all warships and your flag ship. Hassan also has access to the boarding party which is useful in war. Basically if you are at the Patrician stage chances are your enemy is going to have a single large warship. So what you do is you send your boarding party after that one ship. All the while the remainder of your fleet is going to nuke down the rest of the ships around it. If you get the warship that’s great, if you don’t, don’t worry. The purpose of the boarding party was merely to keep the large warship from destroying your fleet and exposing the remainder of his fleet. The whole battle will be over before you successfully board his ship so the tactic will work.

Okay so you have your attainments, you have your items and you are sinking their ships, now what? GROUND WAR!

After successfully taking this node my little army is barely noticeable on the screen moving on look just under the paper mill and you will see my units.

Ground war is simple but arduous. As you saw there seven different unit types available in this game with four of them being the ones you will probably use. I say this because you need to become a four-star ally of the Grand Vizier and have 1,000 envoys before you can access his ground military options. You will want some small encampments but not a lot. Mostly what you are looking for is one trebuchet and a lot of large encampments. If for whatever reason enemies are still alive by the time you get access to the oriental types one cannon position and two miner positions will be a helpful addition to this army.

So you send in your small military encampment in to make the big ole battle fort. Generally you will want to take a harbor if they only have their main harbor than don’t sweat it. But yeah if you can get a harbor do it up. Make sure your battle fort doesn’t kill the harbor obviously or this would ruin all your future power plays. Gaining a harbor means you will be able to move Provisions into the area. Provisions are gained at Patrician level through a Provision house. These have to be manually created and cost different types of food, water and clothes. Provisions are going to keep your war effort moving on the island, but if you’re not a Patrician, don’t sweat it he’s probably not either.

Generally you do not want to assault his main island first. You are going to want to go after his territories… target ones that have resource you want or will want. Islands with fertility to grapes, silk, indigo, hops, and wheat are going to do you very well by the end of the game. Knock out towers first then take over harbors. If the enemy player loses control of all their harbors they can no longer send in new supplies to this island. New supplies would mean that they are going to construct more stuff for you to take over. You just place your troops next to what you want to take over and fast forward through the timer. Colonies are usually poorly defended, but if they are defended send in your trebuchet first. Do not sent in any troops until your trebuchet is in position, if anything move your troops just out of range of the tower you are trying to destroy. Once the trebuchet is being attacked move in the rest of your army and invade.

Okay so you are knocking out his colonies and have everything he has that you want for now, time to attack his main land. Fighting on his main soil will only be harder because he has a keep on that island. Keeps are heavily fortified and require 4-5 encampments to take over or add in a trebuchet or a cannon to destroy them. As long as the keep is up the enemy will be producing new troops to defend with so taking this thing over is a huge priority. Once the keep is taken you have won, he cannot defend himself. Just go about taking over MARKET buildings after that. I stress market buildings because if you take over his production and he declares peace his population will not have any resources to survive on. This means either entering a trade agreement with you or withdrawing from the region. By doing this you will make sure your reputation with other hostile leaders is secured.

Why did Uncharted Waters Online Fail?

KOEI released a game for the Super Nintendo called “Uncharted Waters.” Despite having a small audience it’s niche crowd spawned the popularity for years of age of sail games focusing on trade and conquest. Interest in this genre continued to grow to the point where people are actively competing for shares in this industry. The game was uniquely likeable to a Korean audience because of the ability to grind out money and minimal storylines.

The game was ported to America under the traditional name Uncharted Waters Online. The game was done by Netmarble who at this point were working on a title called Anima Online and had a simple fighter game on their system.

I think before going into depth it is important to note the difference between a game made by KOEI for a Korean market and a game ported by Netmarble for an English market. On the one hand you have a game with great finish product with optional item shop items to keep the game alive. On the other hand you have a game with already finish product with necessary item shop items to keep the game alive. What I will be saying failed here is the American release “Uncharted Waters Online” not the Korean release “Daikokai Jidai Online.” I make this distinction just so people do not say something stupid like “well this game is really popular overseas.”

Long Tutorial.

Before delving into any other problems I’d like to first talk about the introduction of a new gamer to it. A lot of the themes of this article will be a difference between Asian and American markets but this one is more a difference between the Asian game and the American game.

So here is a little story about my trek into Uncharted Waters Online. At the time I was pretty hardcore into Starcraft 2 and just needed an MMO that I could use as a break between games. So I looked around and what did I find, Uncharted Waters now had an MMO. It is something that went under the radar for me.

But this was not the kind of MMO I would keep for myself… no I felt the need to share this one. So I got my girlfriend on this game, three of my friends and two of their girlfriends. We would make an effort to play this game one hour a day every day at the exact same time.

So after two weeks everyone but myself up and quit the game. I couldn’t even beg my girlfriend to play this game.

Everyone cited the exact same reason for leaving this game, the tutorial was too long. Keep in mind we were doing this tutorial with seven people, this thing should go instantly. However the tutorial was all individual objectives and co-oping together did not help anything. As well they were all class specific so even if you wanted to you really could not.

The tutorial after I finished it took me 100 hours of game play to finish. That is the introduction for the game, 100 hours long. An introduction to an MMO should either take 2-3 hours or it should be slowly introduced throughout the game.

This game had a poor cultural basis. In Korea they would rather get all of the tutorial stuff out of the way immediately and just jump into the main game with no restraints. In America we like to learn as we go so that we learn becomes more pertinent to the experience.

Worst yet when I actually jumped into the Korean version of the game what I found was that the tutorial was actually only 3 hours long. The remainder of it they labeled off as epic side quests.

Yeah for whatever reason when they ported this game over they decided that instead of them being optional high reward side quests they should be required parts of the tutorial that you will need to unlock more of the game. This turned off so many people who just wanted to do the core mechanics of the game: trade, discover and fight.

Greed: Item Shop.

Most free to play games do not want to sell their products in a store for a price for a number of reasons.

The first reason is that these games are not good enough to compete with other commercially available games. These commercially available games are finished products, these games are not.

But that’s not always the case. Many times the problem lies in with game shares. When you buy a copy of Skyrim from Walmart it is not marked up at all, it is the same price it is online. Walmart makes its money by taking a substantive cut out of the sale. They can do this because games have to pay a shelf fee and a sales cut. This means that new games being sold at stores might get back 50% of the box sale. So say Skyrim sold 300,000 copies at Walmart at $60, Walmart will take roughly $900,000 out of those sales.

So for these games it only makes sense to sell item shop cards at Walmart.

So they go online only and free to play only just so they can attract people with the offer of free. The item shop is then how they have to make money.

Successful item shops in Asia usually have gimmicky items to make their characters more social or more creative. Item shops in America usually feature things that will make your character perform better.

Unchartered Waters Online tried to suck people in first by making the item shop do things that would just make the game go faster. But then came the nail in the coffin… the Investment Bond.

The Investment Bond was a particularly unfair advantage. For a pretty cheap amount a person could purchase one of the $1,000,000 Investment Bond.

So some basic understanding of how you play a merchant in this game. You will go from port to port buying commodities at certain ports and trading them at others. The big money route is to go to the Orient, purchase various spices and bring them to any European port in a large fleet. Once you have tones of money you spend it to upgrade your ship and the remainder you will use to dump into ports to gain strategic control of them. By gaining control of the ports you will have more trading options and you will gain better prices for trade.

Certain nations are also at war with other nations. So by creating these transitions you are essentially locking ports from people’s controls.

So you go to the East Indies and the New World where all the money is made and invest all your money there. This will give you better prices on things and worse prices for others. It will also make your company and nation a game leader.

So now that you understand that you understand that doing all of this is a long process that involves long trade routes and days of money making you may understand how agrivating it is when someone purchases one of these Investment Bonds and ‘flips’ a port that you have spent a month working on. These things give you access to insanely high income that would take people a very long time to make. This income is only used flipping ports. It essentially transformed the Merchant side of the game to being mostly about who has more real life dollars.

This was one of the biggest controversies for a year and was something that was never even considered for change. They felt that taking these out was not worth the losses of income they would have. It is possible this is the only money they were making in the game.

Warships were originally designed to just protect and raid trade ships. But eventually they added mini games for the warships, PvP around ports. The item shop responded by adding specialized clothes and sails that would improve your performance enormously in these battles. It came to the point where if you do not have these items you will just get wrecked by smaller and weaker ships.

Yep, items ruin a good game.

Undeveloped Third Way.

A third feature of the Uncharted Waters series was the ability to explore and find new and exotic things. This represented the hardest way to do things because you are traveling with very little money and you only make money if you actually find something.

It is this last way that makes this style of play very unrewarding… that it can all be over any time. The problem is that when you have no money you get no money and so you want to have some security.

Every adventurer is then required to be an adventurer and something else. Most people choose to be adventurers and war. But as you do more of the war thing you become less attracted to finding items and discovering exotic locations.

This is because guilds have no place for people who simply want to find stuff. They have no real function. You can use them to scout the locations of trade fleets for large pirate fleets but honestly you would rather just have another warship in for that.

Finding stuff is something you do on your own clock, something that doesn’t really involve a fleet. But as you play the game more and more you find that you will need a fleet to get to most of these exotic places. This means an adventurer has to be highly sociable and find a guild that he can leach off of without having any demands from him.

See how that might be a problem?

I actually did have a friend who wanted to just discover things… thank god she decided to quit before it became an issue.

Not Enough Zeal.

When I heard had re-mastered Uncharted Waters to an online version I thought this could be an amazing game. What I have found out is that it is a heaping pile of crap. The problem is the KOEI isn’t just KOEI anymore. They’re not free to work exclusively on what they want anymore.

Now it is Tecmo-KOEI!

The problem with this is that Tecmo’s games have been more popular over the years (think Dead or Alive and Dynasty Warrior). These newer updated versions of Tecmo games have received the collective funding of KOEI and Tecmo.

This leaves Uncharted Waters Online as merely a cash cow for future game developments. The game is popular enough in Korea to keep it afloat and makes enough money in America to keep it afloat, so servers will not turn off in the next year. But it will never be a phenom.

Free to play doesn’t make it a bad game. The most popular game in the world right now is a MOBA called League of Legends.

The developers just did not have enough imagination with this game. They went for profits instead of popularity and that is in the end what makes this chance for greatness… fail.

5 days is a full work week or twice the average length of a video game. That’s insanely long.

as i said, that’s OPTIONAL. you may do it or you may not. the game has so many things to say thats why they set up a school system.

There are 3 types of schooling, the basic one, intermediate, at the other long one.

The most important tutorial is the first, intermediate and the other can be finished or not.

I’ve finished the 1st one, and head my own journey. About a week I made 100M cash through dungeoning, trade and setting up a shop (or a bazaar) in one of the best trading spots in UWO world.

If i got a game and it only lasts 5 days i would be pissed. The tutorial is optional and at least this isn’t some watered down game where you have to pay thousands of $$$$ just to get anywhere.

The average length of a game these days is 30 hours. Older ones (like Doom) had an average playthrough of 3 hours. The original Uncharted Waters had a play value of something like 200 hours. The sequel (New Horizons) had a play value of something like 150 hours. UWO is just an insanely long game… even compared to the source material.

The tutorial of the game (School) is totally optional, and it is just as long as you want to make it. I’ve completed the tutorial in one day at my own pace.

Other than that, the game is complex. There is NO WAY to explain all it’s features in a small or short tutorial, if they try, it will lead to players getting completely lost in the middle of game for not knowing what to do or how to do. The tutorial of the game is the most complete tutorial I’ve ever seen.

Also, the tutorial can’t be called a tutorial, because it’s part of the. The school courses is actually part of the gameplay, and not just some texts around.

One point has to be said, though. Uncharted Waters Online is NOT a game that aimed for popularity, and it wouldn’t be popular even if it aimed for it. The whole theme and concept of the game would NEVER attract a large population of players, or become a trend whatsoever. The target public of the game is very specific, and it satisfies those who enjoy the game theme.

The cash shop of the game is indeed an issue, but it’s not something that kills the game, far from that. It indeed helps a lot those who buy the items, but it’s not like you’ll have no chance of doing something if you didn’ bought anything. You just have to work your way on it, because the cash shop doesn’t give you totally exclusive effects or features, it just gives you some boosts on something that you could still do without the cash. But still, it’s an issue.

The only thing that I agree about this is the Adventure job. It’s pretty annoying to run from place to place to make profit on some discoveries, even IF you find those. They need to rework completely the discoveries system if they want to please those who are aiming for it.

All in all, Uncharted Waters Online is not a game for masses, and you’ll either love it, or hate it. The goal for the game is to target a very specific public, and if you loved the Snes version, you’ll probably like this one as well.

But anyway this review is half-assed, the reviewer just raged quit.

This game is meant to be for “social” contact as you NEED friends ingame.

I also really enjoy adventure, I like how you gotta be straggling for money in the beginning to make it to the big times.

My problem with the game was the tedious grind. I expect somewhat of a grind with MMOs but this game was just retarded in this aspect. Also the land combat system was horrible and not developed nearly enough. It had a lot of potential, too.

Playing sence day 1. The game was a wonderful distraction and a whole lot of entertainment in it’s original form and content. The Devs somehow got the idea the game would be better as a cheap imatation of WOW. They added crummy dungeons and a way to wisk back and forth to them. Now you have a lot of newer players who just sit in town and make huge profits at the expence of all the older players who prefer the game in it’s orignal concept. Their huge profits are hurting the economy of the game. Many of the older players have decided not to support a game that seems to care little about thier concerns. Seems the Devs are hell bent on self destruction with their crappy version of “Uncharted Dungeons Online”

I can understand why someone who has been playing the game since day 1. Since the game was released in america around 2010 that means older players have had around 2 years advantage over people who have just heard of and/or started playing the game.

Given the amount of grinding and time consumption it takes to progress, and the fact that most older players have the means (or should have the means) to make millions trading or crafting high lvl items(that can sell for millions and for the top tier ships billions) the money from dungeons is almost nothing.

All the dungeons do is give these new players a chance to gain a slight boost by gaining some capital that they can reinvest in the game at the price of hours of farming to make a decent profit. Add in the fact that those hours spent farming only allow to gain proficiency in a very few skills and I don’t think its completely overpowered.

I can’t lie I just started playing about a month ago and have made maybe somewhere between 150-200 mil from grinding but I definitely am not looking to become dependent on them for income. Simply have used them to help cut back the time it would take to make a small percentage of the same profit trading with low lvl ships.

also, dungeons give the adventurer a chance to make money.

UWO’s tutorial, it is only long because it tries to cover the basics which are needed which are many. I have dealt with a bunch a players who haven’t followed the tutorial and I have spent a few precious minutes assisting them.

guess a lot of people are starting to leave uwo on my end it wasnt the intro that bugged me it was the economics system you go around and if by chance you get hit by high level pirates or sink by way of elements kiss your earnings goodbye. and uh the characters are a bit not developed there’s barely a way to differentiate male from female with the girls chests so flat.

Bem & # 8230; been playing 2 weeks. With the 2x XP last weekend I hit 18/52/14. I ground out the EA trade goods for ESBTs thing. Now I am sailing a Trade Clipper. I enjoyed the initial sailing around and making money doing Beirut to Famagusta runs, but ESBT dungeon runs are definitely faster cash (duh, 1 million in 2 minutes versus 160k in 2 minutes). As for “fail” or not, all I can see from this end is that yes the intro/schooling is long. I completed the trade school but not the other two. No regrets there. I loved Taipan (old text trading game from the 1980s) and this game brought me back to that a bit. So maybe I am still feeling nostalgic, but I am still enjoying the game and with the “shortcuts” they have added have not become so disenchanted with grinding out tiny little sales that I have quit. I think they realized that they needed SOMETHING to help keep people playing who would otherwise be like “damn, I gotta sail this dinky little ship for HOW LONG before I get something better?”

This review of Uncharted Waters Online is pretty quite a fail one. What a misleading way to claim something that bold.

1.) Optional Tutorials – The Fact that the reviewer of the game in fact miss the Optional Tutorial. And also forgot to mention that there are 3 tutorials (1 basic, 1 intermediate, and 1 harder tutorial)

2.) Easy Money – It’s quite easy to make money, as long as you know or have the “Business” kind of mentality and “patience”. Or at least finish the tutorials to know how to make money. You don’t even need a lot of money just to travel to a lot of places. All you need is just Food and Water that cost very low and cheap. Leveling, like almost all games, of course is a must in order to gain cash. Only those people who fail and complains about their money problems, tend to be a failure for these kind of games.

3.) Fleet Needs? & # 8211; Even without anyone in the fleet, you can still manage on your own. With Aids (AI Companion) by your side, it’s quite easy to travel. The game isn’t actually based on some fast paced WoW kind of game.

Since I wrote this UWO has had three expansions. The developer has read my article since it is one of the most damning ones written about it and he admitted I had pointed out all of the weaknesses of the game. These expansions had sought to try and work on this. This isn’t a review of the game it is a criticism of how bad it is, or maybe of how bad it was. I have returned to the game since I wrote this and it’s not as bad off. It’s still not my beloved Uncharted Waters, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was. If I was reviewing the game I probably would have brought up many of the good and addicting elements of it. I however was more focused on simply pointing out problems. I played this game with my girlfriend and I took some of her first thoughts (as a casual) when considering all of this. I was happy that my criticism of the game has had such a huge impact on the game. However this article is quite old and I won’t be revising history.

I have only recently gotten into UWO via steam. I also grew up with the atari 2600 onwards, loved the SNES, and absolutely loved the original UW games. I sunk a very smooth 80 hours into UWO before the game started throwing an access violation when trying to launch it.

I’m going to point out two reasons behind the games drastic decline, in my eyes. First there appears to be zero customer support, even on their own forums they simply regurgitate the same tired tier 1 checklists. reinstall, reboot, give the game admin privileges, disable antivirus… nothing resolves this problem. Which brings me to reason #2…

Gameguard. Seriously, how many times do we need to relearn the lessons of punkbuster and safedisk? Gameguard runs afoul of antivirus software because of the way it entrenches itself onto your system, and generally behaves as a rootkit. To suggest that a customer disable their antivirus protection while running an online game would be laughable if it were not so frightening that they are doing it seriously. Gamers are not idiots. we take security seriously, and we do not want rootkits on our systems, especially ones with a long and well established history of making the game itself unplayable.

Donald Trump has been spotted playing golf at his vacation destination Wednesday while the nuclear crisis escalates with North Korea after his 'fire and fury' threat.

North Korea's state run news agency KCNA dismissed his warning as a 'load of nonsense' and said that only 'absolute force' can work on someone as 'bereft of reason' as Trump' as the country steams ahead with its plan to strike the U. S. Pacific territory of Guam by mid-August.

Pentagon chief James Mattis issued his own warning among the increasingly aggressive rhetoric, telling Kim Jong-un that he risks destroying his regime and his people if he attacks.

The magnitude of the nuclear crisis was underlined as one White House aide, Sebastian Gorka, compared it to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Meanwhile, the president appeared to be unfazed by the escalating threat, as he was revealed to be on the course with a golfing companion. A New York businessman posted an Instagram picture saying their match had gone 'down to the 18th hole'.

The White House would not confirm that Trump, who had tweeted that his 17-day stay in Bedminster, New Jersey, was not a vacation, was on the golf course Wednesday. Gorka scolded DailyMail during an encounter at the White House for daring to ask about the president's whereabouts.

Trump's reaction to North Korea's increasingly aggressive posture, which in the space of 24 hours saw the president and his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson apparently at odds, has fueled fears on a military conflict around the globe, especially after it was revealed that Trump's Pentagon chief, James Mattis, was initially out of the loop.

Mattis weighed in with his own stern warning to North Korea on Wednesday afternoon - shortly before the Instagram image of Trump on the golf course emerged - invoking the 'end' of its regime following President Trump's own admonition that Pyongyang's threats would bring 'fire and fury.'

Michael Fazio, a friend of a Trump donor, posted a picture of the president standing next him on Instagram that he says was taken at Trump's New Jersey golf course today.

'Fantastic day golfing with #45 @realdonaldtrump at Trump Bedminister today,' he said. 'We had an exciting match which came down to the 18th hole.'

Fazio is a 42-year-old businessman from Bergen County, New Jersey, who runs a staffing agency for hospital and banks.

He suggested in his post that the Bedminster tee-off had been organized by Richard Levine, a friend of Trump who has donated to his foundation.

Fazio had previously boasted to Time Out that he is a blue-collar self-made man who wears only bespoke suits.

Reporters at Bedminster, where Trump is spending time away from the White House, have been refused information on when the president is golfing.

In his first comments since the crisis took a sharp escalation, Mattis, a former Marine general, said: 'The DPRK must choose to stop isolating itself and stand down its pursuit of nuclear weapons,' referring to North Korea.

He continued: 'The DPRK should cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and the destruction of its people.'

Hours after President Trump brought up the readiness of the U. S. nuclear arsenal, Mattis did his own touting of the military might of the world's reigning superpower - despite it being confirmed that the Pentagon boss had not been aware of the words used by the president the previous day.

Mattis said the U. S. had at its disposal 'the most precise, rehearsed and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth.'

His reference to precision was a reminder of the U. S. military's ability unique ability to attempt to decapitate the regime with guided missile strikes aimed at individuals places where they gather should a military conflict ensue.

His own tough talk followed explosive comments by President Trump on Tuesday issued at his New Jersey golf course that North Korea would provoke 'fire and fury' if it continued with its threats.

Mattis commented on the 'readiness' of U. S. nuclear forces – a more staid version of Trump's own statements about the awesome power the U. S. could bring to any confrontation.

'President Trump was informed of the growing threat last December and on taking office his first orders to me emphasized the readiness of our ballistic missile defense and nuclear deterrent forces. While our State Department is making every effort to resolve this global threat through diplomatic means, it must be noted that the combined allied militaries now possess the most precise, rehearsed and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth,' Mattis said.

'The DPRK regime's actions will continue to be grossly overmatched by ours and would lose any arms race or conflict it initiates.'

Mattis was confirmed by the White House not to have been told in advance about what the president would say precisely - but officials insisted his National Security team were aware of the tone.

That group would not routinely include the defense secretary. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump's words were emphatically his own.

Trump himself fired another flare in Kim Jong-Un's direction on Wednesday morning, saying in tweets the United States' nuclear arsenal is 'stronger and more powerful than ever before' and he 'hopefully' won't need to use it.

'My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before,' Trump said. 'Hopefully we will never have to use this power, but there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world!'

Trump made the show of might on social media after his secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, tried to dial down the conflict as he returned to Washington from Southeast Asia on a trip that included a pit stop in Guam.

Pyongyang's volatile dictator has warned that he was 'carefully examining' plans to make 'an enveloping fire' around Guam, which is home to about 163,000 people and a sprawling American military base.

American airmen in Guam have said they are ready to 'fight tonight,' if they have to. Officials on the island have said they've been reassured by the White House that 'America will be defended.'

The US has also released images of supersonic B-1B bombers flying over the Korean peninsula during a military exercise.

But Tillerson said Wednesday that he does not believe Washington and Pyongyang are on the edge of war.

'Americans should sleep well at night,' Tillerson told reporters as he flew from Malaysia to Guam.

Trump spoke harshly to Kim, a tyrant, 'because he doesn't seem to understand diplomatic language,' Tillerson contended.

'I think the president just wanted to be clear with the North Korean regime on the U. S. unquestionable ability to defend itself, will defend itself and its allies, and I think it was important that he deliver that message to avoid any miscalculation on their part,' he added.

An adviser to the president appeared on Fox & Friends soon after to warn Kim and his government that Trump would not be trifled with.

'He's saying don't test America and don't test Donald J Trump. We are not just the superpower. We were a superpower, we are now a hyper-power,' Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to the president said. 'Nobody in the world, especially not North Korea comes close to challenging our military capabilities.

'Whether they are conventional, whether they are nuclear or whether they are Special Forces. So the message is very clear: don't test this White House, Pyongyang,' he stated.

Trump is spending time at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club while the White House undergoes critical updates. He'll relocate to New York early next week then come back to New Jersey for the maintenance's duration.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says that President Donald Trump's 'fire and fury' charge to Kim Jong-Un shouldn't have Americans panicking. Tillerson is on his way back to Washington from Asia. He made a pit stop in Guam.

A spokeswoman assured reporters on Wednesday that Trump and White House chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly are receiving regular updates on North Korea from the president's national security council. Vice President Mike Pence is making the trek to Bedminster tomorrow, said deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters, and National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster is expected to arrive soon, too.

Walters said Trump's tweet about the arsenal referred to an executive order he signed his first week in office. The January 27 memo said directed the secretary of state to 'initiate a new Nuclear Posture Review to ensure that the United States nuclear deterrent is modern, robust, flexible, resilient, ready, and appropriately tailored to deter 21st-century threats and reassure our allies.'

The two bombers (above at take off) flew in the vicinity of Kyushu, Japan, the East China Sea, and the Korean peninsula. The U. S. released photos of the mission late Tuesday seemingly in response to North Korea's threat to strike Guam.

North Korea said Tuesday that it is 'carefully examining' a plan to strike the U. S. Pacific territory of Guam with missiles hours after Trump told the country that additional threats to the U. S. would be met with 'fire and fury.'

A spokesman for the Korean People's Army, in a statement carried by the North's state-run KCNA news agency, said Wednesday the strike plan will be 'put into practice in a multi-current and consecutive way any moment' once Kim makes a decision.

Guam, which is roughly 2,128 miles from North Korea, is home to both Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam housing thousands of American service members and their families.

Roughly 28 percent of the island is occupied by the U. S. military. The base houses bomber assurance and deterrence missions, including six B-52s which the air force says provide 'strategic global strike capability [to] deter potential adversaries and provide reassurance to allies' and that they are ready to go.

North Korea has said it could carry out a pre-emptive operation if the U. S. showed signs of provocation.

Pyongyang said this week that it was ready to give Washington a 'severe lesson' with its strategic nuclear force in response to any U. S. military action.

Despite North Korea's combative language, which was mimicked by Trump, Tillerson said Wednesday, 'Nothing that I have seen and nothing that I know of would indicate that the situation has dramatically changed in the last 24 hours.'

Tillerson talked to reporters on the way to Guam this morning as he returned to Washington from Malaysia.

Last night, the US military put out photos of the supersonic B-1B bombers leaving Guam on a ten-hour mission that took them to the Korean Peninsula.

The aircraft flew Monday from Guam's Andersen Air Force Base towards Kyushu, Japan, the East China Sea.

The bomber mission was the first for the aircraft and crews recently deployed from South Dakota's Ellsworth Air Force Base to support U. S. Pacific Command's Continuous Bomber Presence missions, Pacific Air Forces Public Affairs stated.

'How we train is how we fight and the more we interface with our allies, the better prepared we are to fight tonight,' one of the pilots with the 37th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron B-1 said.

Lt. Col. Daniel Diehl, 37th EBS, commander said in the release: 'As demonstrated today, our air forces stand combat-ready to deliver airpower when called upon.'

Trump cautioned Kim on Tuesday that additional threats of violence against the U. S. 'will be met with fire and the fury like the world has never seen' in a dramatic escalation of rhetoric that's put world leaders and U. S. politicians on the edge of their seats.

'He has been very threatening beyond a normal state, and as I said they will be met with the fire and fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before,' Trump said in remarks at the top of an unrelated meeting on drug abuse yesterday.

U. S. MILITARY BASES ON GUAM.

Guam, which is roughly 2,128 miles from North Korea, is home to both Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam.

The two U. S. military bases house nuclear bombers and other key assets; they both fall under Joint Region Marianas.

Andersen Air Force Base is located on the north end of Guam, approximately 15 miles from the capital Agana. It is in the village of Yigo.

The base houses bomber assurance and deterrence missions, including six B-52s which the air force says provide 'strategic global strike capability [to] deter potential adversaries and provide reassurance to allies'.

Naval Base Guam is located on the southwest side of the island and has four fast-attack nuclear submarines and an expeditionary helicopter squadron.

Roughly 28 percent of the island is occupied by the U. S. military. At least 6,000 U. S. troops are stationed there.

He stopped just short of a firm promise to declare war on Kim's government if the dictatorship continues to talk about 'physical action' to the U. S.

Yet said to reporters, 'North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States.'

New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English said Trump's remarks were 'not helpful' given the 'very tense' environment that presently exists.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham told CBS that Trump has 'basically drawn a red line.'

The Senate Armed Services Committee said war would be 'horrific' but he thinks 'we're headed that way unless the world can stop North Korea.'

'The time for talking is running out.'

Amid heightened tensions in the region, Beijing staged 'large-scale' military exercises with dozens of ships, fighter jets and submarines adjacent to the Korean Peninsula on Monday - just months after moving 150,000 troops to its border with North Korea.

Russia, meanwhile, moved military equipment including helicopters and combat vehicles to its southern frontier with the hermit state earlier this year. Moscow has displayed its own frightening military strength at a war games event in Siberia this week and during a vast Navy Day parade in Vladivostok - about 100 miles from North Korean territory.

Germany this morning urged North Korea and the United States to show 'restraint' in their mounting war of words.

'We are watching the increasing rhetorical escalation regarding the Korean Peninsula with the greatest concern,' foreign ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer told reporters. 'That is why we call on all sides to use restraint.'

Schaefer said Berlin was convinced a 'military option' could not be 'the answer in the quest for a nuclear weapon-free Southeast Asia'.

He urged the international community to 'thoroughly implement' the latest round of sanctions against North Korea approved by the United Nations Security Council and backed a call by Tillerson to resume talks with Pyongyang if it halts ballistic missile tests.

'We must all continue our diplomatic efforts - it is the only way to ensure that the threat of the illegal North Korean nuclear weapons programme can be contained,' he said.

Calling the situation on the Korean Peninsula 'complicated and sensitive', China's foreign ministry issued a statement warning that parties involved in the impasse should avoid 'words and actions that escalate the situation'.

The European Union said tensions over North Korea can only be resolved by peaceful means, with foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini's spokeswoman saying the developments are 'of great concern to the EU.'

Trump told Kim that additional threats of violence against the U. S. 'will be met with the fire and the fury like the world has never seen' on Tuesday.

Comments from Trump came during a briefing on the opioid crisis on Tuesday at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

Trump sent this tweet on Tuesday morning. That was before North Korea threatened to bomb Guam, escalating tensions.

Trump told the world Tuesday morning that it must be vigilant against North Korea in the face of new threats from the country's young dictator.

'The pressure is starting to show,' Tillerson contended Wednesday. 'I think that's why the rhetoric coming out of Pyongyang is beginning to become louder and more threatening. Whether we've got them backed into a corner or not is difficult to say, but diplomatically, you never like to have someone in a corner without a way for them to get out.'

Kim had warned the United States that it would pay 'pay dearly' for the United Nations sanctions regime it successfully imposed over the weekend and hinted at military action as tensions continued to escalate.

'Physical action will be taken mercilessly with the mobilization of all its national strength,' North Korea's state-run news agency said Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Kim was lashing out at a U. S. push to drain him of the hard currency he needs to develop his nuclear program that Russia and China reluctantly signed on to last weekend.

The sanctions put a hard stop to a third of North Korea's export revenue - a deafening blow to the country's economy.

Trump celebrated the universal participation of Security Council countries in the sanctions with a tweet Tuesday morning that said, 'After many years of failure, countries are coming together to finally address the dangers posed by North Korea. We must be tough & decisive!'

A Washington Post report later on Tuesday suggested that North Korea had invented a miniaturized warhead that it has the capability of attaching to the intercontinental ballistic missiles its been testing.

According to the report, US officials estimate that Kim now has 60 nuclear weapons in his possession.

By comparison, the US is estimated to have more than 6,800 in its stockpile, and Russia is thought to have 7,000.

The development brings the country dangerously close to its goal of creating of a nuclear weapon that can hit targets in the U. S.

Alaska, Hawaii, California and Guam would be at an especially high risk if Kim's scientists finish the weapons and North Korea decides to use them.

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) said on Tuesday that he is seriously worried about a possible North Korean missile strike on his state as well as the rest of the United States.

'There's concern, but there's also pride,' Sullivan said on Fox News's 'The Story' Tuesday. 'Alaska is the cornerstone of our nation's missile defense.'

He added that Alaska's missile defense battalion 'is literally protecting the country.'

'The Alaska guard unit there calls themselves the 300, protecting the 300 million,' Sullivan said. 'So that's what they're doing now, protecting us.

Shortly after Trump's Tuesday morning message, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley appeared on Fox & Friends to deliver tough talk to North Korea and take a victory lap on sanctions.

'The United States will respond accordingly, and I think the international community will respond accordingly,' she said of the dangerous actions that Kim could take in response to the punishing actions.

It's up to North Korean leader to decide whether his response is, 'OK the international community is telling me to stop or he is going to have, you know, a temper tantrum,' she'd said.

Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy worried that Kim is rejecting the international mandate. 'It sounds like, we are getting closer to a shootin' war,' he told Haley.

'But we don't run scared,' Haley asserted. 'This had to happen, we had to go after his hard currency, we had to stop it.'

'How he responds? He's now going to have to think what's the end game? Is he really going to come after the United States knowing what the United States can do back? He's gotta make that calculation,' the high-ranking U. S. diplomat assessed.

Former President Barack Obama's aide Dan Pfeiffer went after Trump's warning to North Korea on Tuesday. Pfeiffer tweeted, 'Don't gloss over the fact that Trump threatened what can only be interpreted as a nuclear attack on North Korea if Kim Jong Un taunts him.'

On Monday, North Korea promised to 'teach the US a severe lesson' if it puts its military might to the test on the Korean Peninsula.

'We will, under no circumstances, put the nukes and ballistic rockets on the negotiating table,' North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said, effectively declining to engage in talks about the nuclear program.

State-run KCNA news agency meanwhile claimed that North Korea 'will make the US pay dearly for all the heinous crimes it commits against the state and people of this country.'

KCNA cautioned the U. S. against 'believing that its land is safe across the ocean' in what it described as a 'stern warning to the US.'

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, 33, first warned that the United States would 'pay dearly' for the United Nations sanctions regime it successfully imposed over the weekend and hinted at 'physical action' as tensions continued to escalate.

Shortly after the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley appeared on Fox & Friends to deliver to more tough talk to North Korea.

Tuesday it slapped the U. S. again, saying in a statement that appeared in the New York Times: 'Packs of wolves are coming in attack to strangle a nation. They should be mindful that the D. P.R. K.'s strategic steps accompanied by physical action will be taken mercilessly with the mobilization of all its national strength.'

Kim is fuming over a United Nations Security Council resolution that will cut a billion out of his $3 billion economy annually. The resolution bans North Korea exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood and blocks off other cash-rich avenues, including joint ventures.

The U. S. pushed the resolution through the Security Council on Saturday with the aid of Russia and China, North Korea's largest trading partner.

'Yes, China and Russia were not the easiest, but at the end of the day they came through, and that's all that matters,' Haley said this morning on Fox & Friends of the vote to put heavy penalties on North Korea over its continued nuclear tests.

China favors deconfliction with North Korea and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula but not the displacement of Kim. Beijing is concerned that a coup would put the country's stockpile of weapons in nefarious hands.

Naval Base Guam (file above) is located on the west side of the island. There is an estimated 6,300 active duty Navy members and 6,900 family members living on Guam as well as a significant population of retired military personnel.

It joined the U. S. and 13 other nations that sit on the Security Council in approving new sanctions on North Korea, a nation with whom it shares a border, after Washington threatened to restrict access to its financial institutions last week.

North Korea's ramped up missile tests since Trump took office has the United States pursuing aggressive measures in the region, including Chinese sanctions.

Military action remains on the table, as well, sparking fears internationally that the conflict will result in war.

The Trump administration's attempts to pressure North Korea into abandoning its nuclear and missile ambitions have so far gained little traction.

U. S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has warned of an 'effective and overwhelming' response against North Korea if it chose to use nuclear weapons but has said any military solution would be 'tragic on an unbelievable scale.'

The United States has 28,500 troops in South Korea to guard against the North Korean threat. Japan hosts around 54,000 U. S. military personnel, the U. S. Department of Defense says, and tens of thousands of Americans work in both countries.

Seoul is home to a population of roughly 10 million, within range of massed pre-targeted North Korean rockets and artillery, which would be impossible to destroy in a first U. S. strike.

A rising number of Republicans - 48 percent - want Trump to go that route. That's a jump from 37 percent in an April CBS News poll.

A majority of Americans are fearful that Trump is not equipped to go to battle with Kim, though. In the CBS survey, 61 percent of voters expressed doubts.

Most do not think North Korea will actually try to strike the U. S. with one of the intercontinental ballistic missiles it's been testing, however.

Nearly seven in 10 Americans think Kim is using the nuclear program to gain power and influence.

He added that Alaska's missile defense battalion 'is literally protecting the country.'

'The Alaska guard unit there calls themselves the 300, protecting the 300 million,' Sullivan said. 'So that's what they're doing now, protecting us.
